ARCHIVED - Third Pfizer jabs for over 70s in Murcia to begin by November
5,000 third Covid doses have already been administered in the Region of Murcia
The regional Health Ministry in Murcia have confirmed that they will begin administering third Pfizer doses to over 70s at the end of October, coinciding with the annual flu jab.
Medical staff have already offered the third Pfizer jab to all elderly care home residents and the top-up shot is currently being administered to high-risk or immunosuppressed patients in the Region; in total more than 5,000 people have received a third jab so far.
The news that the booster-jabs will be extended to over 70s comes after the European Medicines Agency’s announcement that a third shot of Pfizer is considered to be safe for everyone over the age of 18.
Meanwhile, the most recent data indicates that 87.7% of the target population has been fully vaccinated, either with two doses of Moderna, Pfizer or AstraZeneca or a mono-dose of Janssen. This percentage is equivalent to around 1.1 million residents and the health authorities are still trying to convince the remainder of the population to get inoculated, with two mobile vaccination units stationed at both the University of Murcia and the Polytechnical University of Cartagena this week hoping to capture any unvaccinated students or teachers.
