The stats for Corvera Airport summer flights are in: Here's how Murcia fared in 2024
Murcia’s airport gained passengers compared to 2023, but continues to fall short of pre-pandemic figures
The Region of Murcia International Airport, located in Corvera, registered a total of 121,781 passengers in August, the month with the highest tourist flow of the year, which added to the figures for the previous seven months, gives a total of 638,374 passengers in 2024 so far.
Although these figures represent an increase compared to 2023 (0.7% in terms of August and 3.2% in the annual comparison), they are still far from the records of 2019, the last year before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Specifically, in August 2019, Corvera airport had 141,399 passengers, 13.9% more than in August 2024. If you compare the first eight months of 2024 with the same period in 2019, the decrease is 17.5%.
According to the data released this Thursday September 12 by airport management company Aena, of the total number of passengers registered up to August 2024, 635,114 were commercial passengers. Of these, international traffic was once again the majority, reaching 556,094 registered passengers, pretty much the same as last year.
The most notable increase continues to be in the domestic Spanish market with 79,020 passengers flying to/from Spanish destinations during the first eight months of 2024, an increase of 36.6% compared to the same period in 2023. This increase is largely due to the launch of Volotea flights connecting Murcia with Madrid and Barcelona.
In terms of operations recorded between January and August, the Region of Murcia airport handled a total of 4,818 flights, 4% more than in 2023.
