The railway station of Puerto Lumbreras
The station is 7 kilometres outside the town of Puerto Lumbreras
The railway station of Puerto Lumbreras is one of those which is not actually located in the town: in fact, it is 7 kilometres away in the outlying district of El Esparragal, in the village of La Estación, which grew up around the station and is named accordingly.
The station is on the C-2 “cercanías” line, and was opened in 1890 as part of the route which was intended to link the city of Lorca with Baza and Águilas, a project undertaken by the British company The Great South of Spain Railway Company Limited.
There are currently three services per day on the routes to major destinations, and travel times are 40 minutes to Águilas, 1 hour and 10 minutes to Murcia and 2 hours 44 minutes to Alicante.
