The perfect trip this autumn may just be to a town in Murcia branded a rural wonder
The Region is itself becoming a tourist hotspot in recent times during the autumn
Cehegín has recently been named a rural wonder of Spain as the interior of Murcia is becoming ever more popular with nature lovers. The town itself is a great gateway for connecting to the natural world and escaping the busy environment of cities.
This is not the first time that the Region of Murcia has been featured as one of the best places to visit in Spain for nature tourism. Another town close to Cehegín is Moratalla, which is likewise beautiful and proclaimed by National Geographic as a prominent rural destination.
As for Cehegín, a municipality located in the centre of the north-west region of Murcia, the town stands out as a perfect place to visit in autumn due to the warm colours that paint the surrounding hills.
Located 66 kilometres north-west of the capital, this part of rural Murcia is known for its originality and tranquillity; with only 14,500 inhabitants, the small town has witnessed the influence of multiple civilisations who have bequeathed to their descendants a cultural heritage that today delights visitors.
Although any time of year is a good time to visit Cehegín, autumn is one of the best seasons to walk through the cobbled streets. The main reason: the mild climate allows you to walk through the Old Town, where you can admire some of the landmarks of popular architecture such as the Villar de Felices Palace, the Jaspe Palace and the House of the Count of Campillos.
