ARCHIVED - Swimmers discover ancient cannon at Santa Pola beach
Three other similar artillery remains have been discovered in the Alicante municipality

A group of unsuspecting bathers made a remarkable discovery on a beach in Santa Pola on Tuesday August 23 when they stumbled upon the remains of what appears to be part of an ancient cannon.
The swimmers found the archaeological artillery around five metres from the shore of playa Lisa and immediately informed the Local Police, who carefully extracted the piece and arranged for its transfer to the Museo del Mar.

The Santa Pola City Council has guaranteed that the cannon will be kept "in the appropriate conditions for its conservation," while the Councillor for Beaches, Ángel Piedecausa, has expressed his gratitude to the beachgoers who sounded the alarm "and to the Museo del Mar for all the work to recover the piece".
Workers from the museum itself confirm that the coastal municipality currently has three other pieces of cannon that are being studied and that they remain preserved in the same conditions in which they were found.
