ARCHIVED - Storms depart and temperatures soar: Spain weather outlook October 13-16
An anticyclone begins to gain ground in Spain over the weekend, banishing the rain and raising temperatures
After several days marked by torrential rain and heavy storms that put half the country on alert, the good weather returns to Spain just in time for the weekend.
Thursday October 13
Some rain will still dampen the Mediterranean coast on Thursday, but in a much more scattered and isolated fashion. The rest of the country will experience high clouds or mostly clear skies, and possible morning mist and haze that will clear throughout the day.
The mercury will rise in practically all of Spain, touching 29ºC in parts of Andalucia.
Friday October 14
The pocket of cold air along the Mediterranean will move towards the Canary Islands on Friday, pushing the temperatures on the mainland up again. It will be slightly cloudy or clear for the most part, with only scattered showers forecast in parts of northern Spain.
Daytime temperatures will rise almost across the board, more sharply in the eastern half of the country, and with few changes or slight drops in western Galicia. The minimums will also tend to rise in almost the entire northern half of the peninsula, falling a bit in Andalusia and the southeast coast.
Saturday October 15
Due to an oncoming Atlantic front, cloudy skies are expected in Galicia with weak and locally persistent rain in western and northern areas that will tend to intensify throughout the day. This may extend to other points in Galicia and Asturias in the evening. Saturday will be wet in the Canary Islands, particularly in Tenerife, while an afternoon shower can’t be ruled out in the southeast of the country.
The mercury will experience another general increase in the east but drop slightly in the west, but the temperatures will also take a dip along the Mediterranean coast.
Sunday October 16
The Atlantic front will continue to effect Sunday, creating cloudy skies and bringing sometimes persistent rain to Galicia and the western Cantabrian Sea and its surroundings. In the rest of the country and the Balearic Islands, the cloudiness will increase and there is still a chance of scattered showers in the south.
The thermometers will drift upwards again during the day, not straying far from the mid to high 20s in most of the country, with Murcia hitting a sweltering 32ºC.
