Storm Jana puts half of Spain on alert: Weather forecast March 6-9
Weather alerts have been issued across Spain for more torrential rain over the weekend

Weather outlook for Sunday March 9
The driving rain of the past week or so which has caused damage up and down the country and even led to the death of one Murcia farmer sadly shows no signs of abating. In fact, a new front, storm Jana, is set to sweep in this Friday, leading to more widespread storms over the weekend.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), “a deep storm will arrive with new rains, wind and a drop in the snow level.”
“The storm that will affect us will begin to develop during the early hours of Friday. It will deepen rapidly until reaching a minimum pressure. In addition, although the main storm will be extensive, possible secondary low pressure zones that could form and dissipate around it will also be relevant, as they could increase rainfall.”
Thursday February 6

The dark, overcast skies will persist on Thursday, along with widespread rain that will turn stormy inland and in the south of the country. The worst of the rain will hit Valencia, Castellón and Tarragona, where more than 150 litres are forecast to fall during the day. Storms will also be intense in the south-east and in Malaga.
All of Spain can expect more muddy rain thanks to the presence of dust-laden air from the Sahara.
Daytime temperatures will remain mild for the time being.
Orange weather alerts for storms and/or dangerous sea conditions: Catalonia, Region of Murcia, Valencian Community.
Yellow weather alerts for storms and/or dangerous sea conditions: Andalucía, Aragon, Balearic Islands, Castilla y Leon, Madrid, Navarra, Basque Country.
Friday February 7

As storm Jana approaches, heavy rain occasionally accompanied by hailstorms in expected on Friday, alongside the ever-present overcast skies. Persistent downpours are forecast in western Andalucía throughout the day.
Maximum temperatures will fall in the west of Spain but everywhere else should see the thermometers climb by a degree or two, reaching 18ºC in the likes of Alicante and Murcia.
Yellow weather alerts for storms and/or high winds and dangerous sea conditions: Andalucía, Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid, Navarra, Basque Country, Valencian Community.
Saturday February 8

The deeply unsettled weather will continue on Saturday under the influence of an Atlantic front that will create cloudy skies and widespread rain, thunderstorms and hail.
Few changes are expected temperature-wise along the Mediterranean but the thermometers will drop on the Atlantic side of the country, leading to a very chilly night.
Yellow weather alerts for storms and/or high winds and dangerous sea conditions: Andalucía, Aragon, Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid, Navarra, Basque Country.
Sunday February 9

The instability will persist into Sunday, although all of the weather warnings have been lifted for now. Nevertheless, the day will again be overcast and wet, with the heaviest of the rain forecast in the south of Andalucía and the Pyrenees.
Daytime temperatures will fall in the southeast of the country while in the rest of Spain there will be no significant changes, with slight increases in the west and in areas close to the northern Mediterranean coast.
