ARCHIVED - Stalker arrested for harassing and secretly filming woman on Elche beach

The detainee filmed the victim and other women with a hidden camera at Arenales del Sol in the Baix Vinalopo area of Alicante province

A 42-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stalking and harassing a woman, and filming her and other women at Arenales del Sol beach in Elche.

The family of the 26-year-old victim reported their concerns to the police on August 22 after the frightened woman told them she had seen a man following her in the street and "constantly watching her" on the beach over the course of a week.

Police were told the suspect was still in the area and officers were sent to the beach. Realising he had been spotted, the alleged stalker immediately tried to hide a small black object in his backpack, and when questioned he admitted he had been using USB camera to record beach users.

Footage of the 26-year-old woman was found on the video and the man was arrested and charged with harassment.
