Spanish airline becomes the first in Europe to offer dog food
Spain’s low-cost airline Vueling has also unveiled its new coeliac and vegan menus
These days, many animal lovers choose to take their pets with them when going on vacation, and airlines are slowly but surely beginning to adapt to this change in trend. Spain, as one of the EU countries with the most animals per households, is once again breaking new barriers by becoming the first nation in Europe where flights offer bespoke food for canines.
Barcelona-based airline Vueling has just announced that for the 2023-2024 winter season, it will give passengers travelling with dogs the opportunity to purchase Edgard & Cooper treats and snacks for their furry friend.
But that’s not all, as the airline has also unveiled a brand new menu for health conscious passengers as well and will soon be offering a Heüra plant-based burger with cheese on top of its other veggie options which include a vegetarian cous cous dish and the ever-popular Spanish omelette, or tortilla.
The new menu also has a variety of options for coeliacs, with products such as a puff pastries, a double chocolate muffin and kale chips with tomato and oregano. The airline has also added items from the Robin Good company to its menu, a snack made by hand by people at risk of social exclusion, healthy and with 100% plastic-free packaging.
Travelling with your pet on Vueling airlines
Vueling allows passengers to bring dogs, cats, most birds and turtles into the cabin, although rodents, rabbits, ferrets, farm animals, reptiles, fish and birds of prey are not permitted.
When in the cabin, pets must be secured in a soft shell carrier measuring 45x39x21 centimetres and the total weight, including the animal and the cage, can’t exceed 8 kilos.
Unfortunately, Vueling doesn’t accept pets on flights to or from the UK but in Spain, booking a seat for your animal will cost just 50 euros (60 euros to and from the Canary Islands).
