Spain weather forecast June 1-4: Heat eases but storms return
Temperatures will gradually fall across much of Spain this week, although the south can still expect highs above 35°C

Average temperatures expected on Tuesday June 2
After an exceptionally hot second half of May, Spain is finally set to get a break from the worst of the heat this week. Temperatures will remain above average for the time of year, particularly in the south, but cooler air arriving from the north will gradually bring more comfortable conditions to many areas.
At the same time, several weather fronts will move across the country, increasing the chances of rain and thunderstorms, especially in northern and eastern regions.
Monday June 1

The week begins with the heat still firmly in place across southern Spain. Temperatures could reach around 40°C in parts of the Guadalquivir Valley, with highs above 35°C also likely in the Guadiana Valley and parts of the Ebro Valley.
Further north, conditions will be much more pleasant, with some cities struggling to get much above 20°C. Sunshine will dominate across most of the country, although cloud will begin to increase later in the northwest ahead of an approaching front.
Tuesday June 2

A cold front arriving from the northwest will start to take the edge off the heat. Temperatures are expected to fall noticeably in many areas, including Madrid, where highs could be 4°C to 5°C lower than the start of the week.
Cloud and scattered rain will spread from Galicia into other northern regions. Some heavier downpours are possible in the Pyrenees and parts of the northeast.
Despite the cooler air, southern Spain will remain very warm, although the intense heat will begin to ease.
Wednesday June 3

Wednesday should be a largely settled day for most of Spain. Skies will be mostly clear or partly cloudy across central and southern areas.
Galicia will be the exception, with cloud increasing through the day and rain becoming more widespread by the evening. Parts of the Cantabrian coast could also see some light showers.
Temperatures will continue to fall in many regions, although the Guadalquivir Valley could still exceed 35°C. Night-time temperatures will become more comfortable in most areas, though some Mediterranean coastal locations may remain above 20°C overnight.
Thursday June 4

Another weather front will sweep across northern Spain on Thursday, bringing cloud, showers and the risk of thunderstorms. The wettest conditions are expected in parts of Catalonia, where some rainfall could be locally heavy.
Elsewhere in the north, skies will be more changeable with a mix of cloud and sunshine. Southern Spain and the Balearic Islands should stay largely dry with plenty of sunshine.
Temperatures will continue to fall across northern and northwestern regions, while parts of the Mediterranean coast could see a slight rise in temperatures once again.
