Spain introduces fast track fines for traffic offenders
Express Fines will notify drivers in Spain of an infraction within 48 hours

It often takes weeks or even months for a traffic fine to arrive in Spain, meaning countless drivers miss out on the early payment grace period when motorists can get 50% off the sanction. This is all set to change with the new ‘Express Fines’ from the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), which aims to issue notifications of infractions within 48 hours.
The DGT's Express Fines system is designed to be quick and efficient. By registering for the Electronic Road Address (DEV) on the official DGT website, you'll receive almost instant notifications via email and SMS.
This means you'll be informed about any fines in near real-time, allowing you to take action and resolve the situation swiftly.
Receiving fines within 48 hours has several advantages. For one, it allows offenders to recall the exact circumstances of the infraction, making it easier to accept responsibility or contest the fine. Additionally, the faster notification process alerts drivers to mistakes they may unwittingly be making on the road, avoiding future infractions.
To take advantage of the Express Fines system, you'll need to register for the DEV on the DGT's website. This requires an electronic ID or digital certificate, but the process is relatively straightforward. Simply visit the website, select the ‘Registration, modification and deregistration in DEV’ option (‘Alta, modificación y baja en DEV' in Spanish) and follow the prompts to complete your registration.
