Smart loos installed along Marbella seafront in time for summer
Forty modern and eco-friendly public toilets will serve beachgoers, promenade walkers and families from this month

The facilities, which have been described as modern, functional and intelligent, are designed to blend in with the style of the city while also meeting the practical needs of both locals and tourists. They will be located along key spots including beaches, beach bars, playgrounds and walking areas.
Mayor Ángeles Muñoz, who visited the first unit installed at Levante Beach in Puerto Banús, said: “These new facilities are more in line with the character and needs of the city. They will serve people strolling along the promenade, as well as users of playgrounds, beach bars, and the beach itself.”
The project has received a €1.2 million investment, co-financed under the Large Tourist Cities Plan – a collaboration between the Marbella City Council and the Andalusian regional government.
The modules are designed with sustainability in mind. Each is equipped with solar panels, and they will open and close automatically between 7am and 11pm.
Councillor for Public Works, Environment and Beaches, Diego López, explained that each module includes four separate restrooms, all of which are accessible to people with reduced mobility. They are also fitted with baby changing tables, an emergency alert system and security cameras.
He added, "Although all elements are vandal- and graffiti-proof, unfortunately, not everyone understands that these are public assets, and it's very important to take care of them."
The units are expected to be available for public use throughout this month and the next, with the aim of having all of them fully operational in time for the high season.
