More than half of the new infections in Alicante province and the rest of the region are over 60-years-old

New infections are slightly up in the latest update from the Ministry of Health following a two-week downward trajectory, but on a positive note, the number of seriously ill patients on hospital wards has fallen once again.
After more than a fortnight of 30-plus fatalities in each twice weekly update, Covid-related deaths have fallen significantly.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has confirmed 2,664 new coronavirus cases since the last update on Friday August 5, a slight uptick on the 2,495 infections reported four days ago.
By provinces: 307 in Castellón (188,569 in total), 1,236 in Alicante (522,302 in total), 1,119 in Valencia (823,839 in total) and 2 unassigned.
Of these new cases, 1,400 are people over 60 years of age (up from 1,264 last Friday): Of the new cases in over 60s, 186 are from Castellón, 636 from Alicante, 576 from Valencia and 2 unassigned.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 861 Covid patients in hospitals across the Valencia region, 10 fewer than the last update, 35 of them in the ICU (17 less): 135 in the province of Castellón, 3 in the ICU; 287 in the province of Alicante, 18 of them in the ICU, and 439 in the province of Valencia, 33 in the ICU.
Fatalities
Seventeen deaths have been reported since the last update, 27 fewer than were registered on Friday, all of which occurred within the last seven days except for one in July.
The deceased are 9 men aged between 63 and 99-years-old and 8 women aged between 46 and 91-years-old. This brings the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 9,863: 1,164 in the province of Castellón, 3,763 in Alicante and 4,936 in Valencia.
