Singles' Day in Spain: The shopping holiday that beats Black Friday
On November 11, shoppers in Spain can bag a serious bargain
While Black Friday and Cyber Monday are just around the corner, there’s another shopping holiday that has been gaining traction in Spain in recent years which offers mega bargains for the discerning shopper - and it's about to give Black Friday a run for its money.
Say hello to Singles' Day, a day of discounts and deals that's taking the world by storm.
Singles' Day originated in China. In the Asian country, the number 1 is interpreted as a tree without leaves, which symbolises singlehood according to Chinese popular culture. Just as February 14 is Valentine's Day, on November 11 several Chinese students celebrated their singlehood by exchanging gifts with each other.
But what started as a tongue-in-cheek celebration among Chinese students has turned into a global shopping phenomenon.

Now, on November 11, people around the world can enjoy discounts and deals that rival those of Black Friday.
Chinese retail giants like AliExpress and Alibaba were the first to jump on the Singles' Day bandwagon, launching their own discount campaigns and sparking a global shopping frenzy. The results? In 2021, Singles' Day tripled Black Friday's sales figures in the US and Europe.
It's no wonder companies like Shein, Huawei and Temu are joining the party, offering discounts and deals this November 11.
Mark your calendars for next November 11, because that's when Singles' Day will kick off. And don't worry, it's not just a one-day affair – some companies like AliExpress have been known to extend their Singles' Day campaigns for up to two weeks in November.
So, get ready to shop 'til you drop and snag the best deals of the season.
