ARCHIVED - Sharp drop in hospital admissions: Valencia Covid update February 11
Hospital admissions due to Covid in Alicante province and the rest of the region have fallen by 161 patients in 24 hours
The wave dictated by the virulent Omicron variant appears to be loosening its grip on the Valencia region with a sharp drop in the number of hospital admissions over the last 24 hours, and a decrease in new infections.
Whilst mortality remains a concern, with 26 deaths reported in the latest update from the Ministry of Health, the data is moving in the right direction with a continued slide in the 14-day cumulative incidence this week, falling to 2,138 cases per 100,000 people.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has reported 8,950 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, down from 9,934 on Thursday February 10. This brings the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,235,108.
By province: 805 have been recorded in Castellón (151,320 in total), 2,982 in Alicante (435,408), 5,161 in Valencia (648,373). There are now seven unassigned cases.
According to the health data, there are currently 103,630 active cases, which represent 8.31% of the total positives.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 1,420 people admitted to hospital with Covid, significantly lower than the 1,581 reported on Thursday, 135 of them in ICU (nine less): 206 in the province of Castellón, 13 in ICU; 442 in Alicante, 47 ICU; and 772 in Valencia, 75 in the ICU.
17,332 people have overcome the virus since the last update, which means the total number of recoveries since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1,134,101.
By provinces, the recoveries are distributed as follows: 138,430 in Castellón, 402,386 in Alicante and 593,225 in Valencia. There are 60 unassigned cases.
Fatalities
26 Covid-related deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, which brings the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis in the Valencia region to 8,818: 1,010 in the province of Castellón, 3,380 in Alicante and 4,428 in Valencia.
The deceased, who died within the last seven days with the exception of four who passed away in January, are 16 men aged between 42 and 95, and 10 women between 58 and 101-years-old.
