Sevilla win Europa League
There were some scuffles and arrests prior to the match
Sevilla FC have won the Europa League final after winning the penalty shootout 4-1 against AS Roma last night in Budapest.
After 90 minutes, the two European sides were tied 1-1, but Sevilla came out on top convincingly in penalties.
The Spanish team now have seven Europa League titles (2006, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2020 and 2023), and they will play in the Champions League next season.
There was some controversy prior to the match, with clashes between fans in the Hungarian capital leading to arrests and one Sevilla fan being injured.
According to police reports, a Spanish and an Italian citizen were attacked by unknown assailants in Budapest’s V district at around 4pm. Police from Budapest Police Headquarters arrested two men of Polish citizenship on Ferenciek Square.
The Polish fans of Slask Wroclaw were apparently there due to their growing rivalry in recent years with Sevilla fans. Roma fans were also involved in the fights and the throwing of bottles and flares, in several tense moments.
