Seven Murcia and Alicante flights diverted due to powerful storms
Alicante flights were sent to Murcia and Murcia flights were sent to Andalucía

The heavy rainstorms in Alicante and Murcia yesterday meant several flights to each of these provinces’ international airports had to be rerouted to other locations in Spain.
These storms and inclement weather systems were present despite the fact that Murcia and Alicante were actually the two places in Spain that registered the highest temperatures yesterday, up to 33ºC in Archena and Orihuela.

In Alicante, five flights headed for Alicante-Elche International Airport on Tuesday June 13 had to be diverted, with four of them being redirected to the Region of Murcia International Airport.
Conversely, two flights that were due to land at Murcia airport were diverted to Andalucía due to the thunderstorms.
First it was the easyJet flight from Manchester to Murcia which was diverted to Almería after a missed landing.
The Murcia runway was closed due to the storms, which subjected the plane to significant turbulence and meant the landing had to be aborted.
After landing at Almería instead, the plane was refuelled and flown back to Murcia, landing at about 11pm instead of the scheduled time of 8.30pm.
Despite the troubles, one passenger commented, “The easyJet pilot was great and kept us informed all the way of what was happening.”
Subsequently, the second Ryanair flight of the day from London Stansted to Murcia was diverted to Malaga Costa del Sol airport.
In all cases, passengers were provided with alternative transport to take them to their destinations.
Now the storms have largely passed in the southeast of Spain, the forecast for the rest of this week is for clear blue skies and rising temperatures.
