ARCHIVED - Scorching highs of 35 degrees with cloudy intervals: Alicante weekend weather July 28-31

The mercury rose to unprecedented levels in the Vega Baja area of Alicante province this week and whilst thermometers won't reach record levels at the weekend, they are forecast to top 35℃ in parts and there's a risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms on Saturday July 31.

Thursday July 28 will get off to a cloudy start with mist inland. Cloudy intervals are forecast in the afternoon with a slight rise in maximum temperatures, particularly in coastal areas, where light easterly and southerly winds will feel more intense, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Alcoy: 19℃ (min) to 34℃
Alicante: 24℃ to 32℃
Denia: 24℃ to 34℃
Elche: 23℃ to 34℃
Orihuela: 23℃ to 35℃

Cloudy intervals with possible local mist in inland will shape Friday morning, July 29. Maximum temperatures are not expected to change notably, although coastal areas are likely to feel decidedly muggier at night. Light variable winds will tend towards more easterly in the afternoon.

Alcoy: 20℃ to 34℃
Alicante: 22℃ to 33℃
Denia: 22℃ to 33℃
Elche: 22℃ to 34℃
Orihuela: 22℃ to 35℃

Moving into Saturday July 30, cloudy intervals are likely throughout the day and showers accompanied by thunderstorms have not been ruled out in the north and pre-coastal areas. Little change in minimum temperatures, which will continue to be significantly high along the coast; maximum temperatures will drop slightly inland. Light easterly winds will feel stronger in coastal areas with moderate north-easterly intervals in the morning on the south coast of Alicante.

Alcoy: 21℃ to 33℃
Alicante: 24℃ to 33℃
Denia: 24℃ to 33℃
Elche: 23℃ to 34℃
Orihuela: 24℃ to 34℃

Again, cloud will prevail on Sunday July 31, and there may be showers and thunderstorms from midday. Lows could fall a tad but maximums are likely to rise in the northern half of the province. Light easterly winds, with moderate northeasterly intervals on the south coast of Alicante are forecast.

Alcoy: 20℃ to 33℃
Alicante: 24℃ to 33℃
Denia: 24℃ to 33℃
Elche: 23℃ to 34℃
Orihuela: 24℃ to 34℃
