Sales of electric vehicles remain stagnant in Spain for 2024
October has not seen an improvement in sales in electric vehicles in the country
Sales of plug-in vehicles fell by 4.3% in October, with 10,756 units sold, a number similar to the previous month. Of total sales, they accounted for 10.36% of the market as a whole in October.
Up to the end of October, 97,626 electric cars have been sold in Spain so far this year. That number is
1.7% lower than the same period of the previous year. In the year-to-date, the total share remains at 9.77%, which is 0.8% below 2023.
Sales of pure electric vehicles fell by 10.9% in October, with 5,504 units registered. This represents a 5.3% market share in the month. For the year as a whole, sales of these vehicles totalled 49,401 units, 1.2% more than in the same period last year.
The low figures highlights the urgency of continuing to stimulate the market in 2024, while at the same time working on a set of measures to be implemented with the start of 2025 and that will allow sales to be boosted in the coming year.
As for the registration of alternative vehicles (hybrid and gas), they remain the first choice of purchase with nearly half of the total sales for the month.
During October, within these technologies, conventional hybrids are the most chosen option, with 34% of the entire market.
On the other hand, non-plug-in hybrids, which are currently the ones that pull the electrified cart, increased by 26% during October, reaching 35,365 units registered in this month. It represents a 34.06% market share in October. In the year-to-date, sales of these vehicles total 314,318 units, 24.6% more than in the same period of the previous year.
Gas vehicles increased their sales by 2.6% in October with 3,194 units registered, representing 3.08% of the market share in the month. For the year as a whole, sales of these vehicles total 27,982 units, 28.3% more than in the same period of the previous year.
If we analyse the registrations of passenger cars specifically, electrified, hybrid and gas, these increased their sales in October by 18.8% compared to the same month of the previous year.
José López-Tafall, general manager of Anfac, siad, "Despite the slight fall this month, the electric car market is still above the previous year in the cumulative figure and that is a good sign."
