ARCHIVED - Romanian fugitive arrested at hotel in Benidorm on the Costa Blanca
The 38-year-old captured in the Marina Baixa town was wanted for theft from a construction company in Romania
Police in Benidorm have arrested a Romanian fugitive at a hotel in Benidorm after fleeing charges of theft in his home country.
The 38-year-old is accused of stealing more than 3,000 euros worth of materials from a construction firm in the Romanian town of Darmanesti.
The theft took place in January when the arrestee and another individual broke into the company premises in the early hours of the morning and stole several items. He fled to Spain and the Romanian authorities issued a warrant for extradition (OEDE).

After learning that the fugitive could be staying in a hotel in the popular tourist resort, the National Police in Benidorm set up a surveillance operation and arrested the alleged thief.
The detainee, who has no previous criminal record in Spain, has been placed at the disposal of the Central Courts of Instruction of the National High Court and charged with robbery with force. The process of extradition is underway.
