ARCHIVED - Proposal for campervan and motorhome parking in Torrevieja
The large vehicles are becoming an eyesore for many at the Vega Baja town's La Mata beach car park and the cemetery

A proposal is being fine-tuned to create a dedicated parking area for campervans and motorhomes in Torrevieja to allow better coexistence between residents and vehicle owners.
Apparently, the situation in the car park at La Mata beach and the cemetery has got completely out of hand and campers have been parked there not just weeks, but months.
And because there is no sewage supply, the contents of camper toilets are being dumped anywhere.
The proposal, being drawn up by the municipality's Sueña Torrevieja party, seeks to improve the situation with simple and cheap means, without "scaring away" this lucrative tourism sector. And they are looking to other European cities for inspiration.
The project envisages the creation of a permanent camper site equipped with multilingual signage, payment facilities, electricity, fresh water a chemical toilet and, if necessary, barriers.
Any violations of current laws would be penalised with immediate payment using an onsite card reader and periodic controls would be carried out by the relevant authorities.
