Police foil attempted sale of newborn baby in Malaga for €3,000
Newborn now safe with foster family after swift police action exposes forged documents and false registration
In a heart-wrenching case that could have ended very differently, the Policía Nacional in Málaga successfully prevented the sale of a newborn baby for €3,000. The baby’s biological mother had made a secret agreement with a couple unable to conceive, with plans to hand over the child and have them registered as their own through falsified birth certificates. This troubling situation came to light when social services in Málaga issued a provisional declaration of abandonment after the baby was admitted to hospital. Police investigations soon uncovered inconsistencies and irregularities during the mother’s questioning, particularly regarding the man registered as the baby’s father. It became clear he was not the biological parent but had colluded with the mother at the Registro Civil to falsely claim paternity.
The couple, undergoing fertility treatment, agreed to the arrangement with the mother, hoping to officially register the baby as their daughter and then take her into their care once discharged. Thanks to the swift intervention of the police, however, the baby was removed from this illegal plan and placed in foster care under the guardianship of the Andalusian Regional Government.
Both the mother and the couple are now facing charges of falsifying public documents and altering paternity. The case underscores the hidden complexities and heart-breaking consequences of illegal baby sales and fraudulent adoptions, shining a light on the need for vigilant oversight and care in protecting vulnerable children.
While the situation is deeply upsetting, the quick action of the authorities ensured the safety of this little one, who is now cared for and protected. It’s a stark reminder of how important it is to have robust systems to safeguard children and tackle deceptive practices.
