ARCHIVED - Pilar de la Horadada clinic to become high resolution centre with new X-ray machine and extended health services
From March, registered patients in the Vega Baja town, Alicante, will no longer have to travel to Torrevieja Hospital for X-rays

A commitment made by Torrevieja Hospital management weeks ago to improve the operation and efficiency of Pilar de la Horadada Health Centre looks set to become a reality in the coming weeks.
Hospital manager, José Gabriel Cano, this week met with Pilar de la Horadada's Councillor for Health, Nieves Moreno, and mayor José María Pérez to finalise plans to incorporate new specialities at the clinic and create a 'high resolution centre'.
From early March, a new X-ray machine will be operational and the X-ray service will be extended to three shifts a week. This will mean registered patients will no longer need to go to Torrevieja Hospital for this particular procedure.
In addition, over the coming weeks, new specialities will be gradually incorporated at the Health Centre, such as otorhinolaryngology, traumatology, ophthalmology and gynaecology. The clinic currently specialises in psychology, rehabilitation and dentistry.
The improvements follow the recruitment of a second primary care doctor last November.
"We have been demanding this recruitment and improvements for several years because the local population has been increasing without the addition of more doctors," said the health councillor.
"Extra shifts are also being added to improve primary care waiting times, and architectural improvements are being studied to link Pilar and Torre de la Horadada health centres," she added.
