ARCHIVED - Orihuela launches traffic study in La Zenia in a bid to decongest busy N332 roundabout
The study will steer future traffic reorganisation projects in the Vega Baja municipality, Alicante province

Orihuela Town Hall has launched a study analysing traffic movement and accessibility in the popular residential area, La Zenia, which will provide a framework for improvements in coming years.
In particular, the inquiry will focus on determining "the existing possibilities for decongesting traffic at the N-332 roundabout by improving circulation, as well as improving accessibility and transit for pedestrians and bicycles while optimising park and ride facilities," according to Orihuela's Councillor for Infrastructure, Ángel Noguera.
Specifically, the study will determine the feasibility of simplifying traffic movement to the north of Avenida de la Playa, with a view to widening pavements to increase pedestrian accessibility, upgrading cycle lane signage and infrastructure and reactivating the existing cycle lane in Calle Colón.

Also on the table is a new a shuttle bus service linking the shopping centre with the beach, passing through the various park-and-ride car parks and stopping at existing bus stops along the route.
"This study will serve as a basis for the work to be carried out in the coming years to remodel streets and reorganise traffic in La Zenia," said Noguera, while stressing that "the aim is that residents and tourists can enjoy a more pedestrian-friendly environment with decongested roads, especially in the summer months."
