ARCHIVED - Orihuela Costa beach fenced off after wall collapse
The public has been urged to avoid the area at Punta Prima beach in the Vega Baja comarca, Alicante province.

After a weekend of torrential rain, a large section of stone wall has collapsed at Punta Prima beach in Orihuela Costa, and the area has been fenced off to safeguard the public.
Photographs of a gaping hole and rubble have been posted on a Facebook page - Punta Prima - and by Avoca-Orihuela Costa Neighbours Association In Action, prompting calls for the council's coastal department to "fix the problem as soon as possible".

The council maintains that the area has been made safe, but the post has received plenty of comments from residents claiming the local authority "should have foreseen this", that the collapse was due to the "state of abandonment at the beach", and pointing out it was "lucky there were no tragedies".
