ARCHIVED - Orihuela Christmas lights switch-on: Friday December 10
The Vega Baja town's traditional Nativity Scene will also be inaugurated during the celebrations
Christmas promises to get into full swing in Orihuela this evening (Friday December 10) with the turning on of the Christmas lights and inauguration of the traditional Nativity Scene.
The festivities will take place at 7pm in front of Orihuela Town Hall, onto which a light show with Christmas motifs will be projected, accompanied by the voices of the Ginés Pérez de la Parra choir and the Wind Orchestra of the Municipal Professional Conservatory of Music of Orihuela.
There will also be performances by the Ana Belén Navarro Dance School and Orihuela singer Esmeralda Grao.
In addition to the much-anticipated switch-on and unveiling of the Nativity, the central Christmas tree will be lit up and a festive story will be read by the winner of the XIV edition of the town 'Christmas Story Competition', Rafael López Rodríguez, a pupil at Santo Domingo School.
This year, Orihuela Costa is staging its own separate festivities, and will inaugurate its Nativity Scene in the Alameda del Mar Civic Centre at 5pm on Tuesday December 14.
An hour later, the Christmas lights will be switched on at the door of the Town Hall on Orihuela coast with a performance by the Alameda del Mar Choir and the Oriolanos Generación 21 Association Choir, supported by the Municipal Sports School Musical Accompaniment.
Full details of Orihuela's Christmas programme can be found on the Town Hall website.
