ARCHIVED - Orange alert for storms in Alicante: Monday September 20
Heavy rain and hail is expected in much of the province in the Valencia region into the early hours of Tuesday
The state meteorological agency, Aemet, has issued an orange alert for “strong storms” today, Monday September 20, with up to 40 mm of rain per square metre expected to fall hourly in parts between 4pm and 4am on Tuesday morning.
There is also a “high risk” of hail, though winds are expected to be moderate and temperatures are unlikely to change drastically.
Minimum temperatures of 19 degrees are forecast overnight in Alicante, 18 in Elche, Orihuela and Dénia, and 15 in Alcoy, while the maximums will be between 27 and 29 degrees.
Elsewhere in the Valencia region, cloudy, overcast skies will give way to shower and storms further inland this afternoon, with similar conditions forecast for the south of the region on Tuesday.
The Alicante coast can expect weaker showers tomorrow and moderate east and northeast winds.
