One dead and three injured after serious accident on Lorca-Caravaca road
This is the third major road incident in Murcia since the weekend
A 44-year-old man has died and three others have been injured in a serious traffic accident early this Wednesday morning, February 5, on the RM-711 road from Lorca to Caravaca de la Cruz.
Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of a head-on collision near the village of La Almudema at kilometre 12 of the regional road.
The first calls to the Emergency Coordination Centre of the Region of Murcia were received at 7.09am, with witnesses reporting people trapped in the wreckage.
Firefighters from the Consorcio de Extinción de Incendios y Salvamento de la Región de Murcia, alongside Guardia Civil and Local Police patrols, arrived at the scene to extract the victims. Medical personnel from the 061 Emergency Services attended to the injured.
Sadly, the 44-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A 47-year-old man was taken to the Rafael Méndez hospital in Lorca with minor injuries, while another man, aged 48, was rushed to the Hospital Comarcal del Noroeste in Caravaca de la Cruz with serious injuries. A fourth person, a 26-year-old man, was treated at the scene before making his own way to hospital.
This accident follows other major collisions just days earlier on the A-7 between Puerto Lumbreras and Lorca – where a wrong-way driver caused a multi-vehicle pile-up, injuring three people and damaging six cars before fleeing the scene – and on the N-332 road in Puerto de Mazarrón where three people were injured in the accident, which involved a French car.
