ARCHIVED - New ecopark opens in Elche on April 3
The recycling plant and rubbish tip will be "the most modern" in the Valencia Region
Elche will unveil its new Ecopark next month, hailed as one of the most modern recycling plants and rubbish tips in the entire Valencian Community.
Classed as category D, it will boast the largest capacity of all the sites included in the Valencia Government's Waste Plan.
"The annual capacity of the previous ecopark was around 500 tonnes and with this one we hope to be able to reach more than 1,200 tonnes," said Elche Town Hall in a statement.
Elche Mayor, Carlos González, and the Councillor for Cleaning, Héctor Díez, together with the delegate of cleaning company UTE Elche, Alberto Bleda, visited the Agri-Food Park on Wednesday March 15 to check on its progress ahead of the official opening on April 3.
González explained that "this action is part of the investments that are being carried out as part of the municipality's cleaning contract".
"This is one of the most modern ecoparks in the region with category D, the highest category contemplated in the Generalitat's Waste Plan, and covers a surface area of 3,600 m2 with an investment of 540,000 euros," he added.
The facility will have 45 containers, 13 of which will be large, between 10 and 26 cubic metres, while the rest will be of normal capacity, for all types of waste.
Plastics from the agricultural sector can also be deposited by means of an agreement with Asaja, which will be finalised next month.
In addition, in order to encourage the recycling of household waste, Elche has nine local waste collection points, six of them in the districts, as well as two mobile points that travel throughout the municipality, five mini ecoparks and five micro ecoparks.
