New storm warnings for Region of Murcia after rain and hail batter Northwest
Aemet has issued a new yellow warning as temperatures also climb close to 40°C across the Region
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a fresh round of storm warnings for the Region of Murcia, just a day after heavy rain, hail and wind battered the Northwest and flooded streets in several municipalities.Monday's storm brought lightning strikes at a rate of up to fifty per minute, sparking fires and causing widespread flooding across the Region. Now Spain's State Meteorological Agency has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms in the Northwest, running from 2pm to 8pm this Tuesday August 11, although officials have stressed the risk this time is "low" rather than the orange level seen on Monday.
The chance of rain sits at around 50% in Caravaca de la Cruz, Moratalla, Cehegín, Bullas and Calasparra, while Cieza, Murcia and the Vega del Segura face a lower risk of between 20% and 30%.
The unsettled weather isn't done yet either. Aemet has also issued a separate warning for Wednesday August 12, covering the same hours and the same Northwest area, with as much as 20 litres of rain per square metre possible in just an hour. The rest of the Region faces only a minimal chance of rain that day.

Despite the storms, there's no relief from the heat in sight, with temperatures set to remain high across the Region of Murcia in the coming days. Aemet's forecast puts highs close to 40°C in Murcia, Molina and Alcantarilla, while the Altiplano, the Northwest and Lorca could reach 37°C. Cartagena and Mazarrón are expected to see highs around 35°C, with slightly cooler conditions of up to 33°C around the Mar Menor and Águilas.
Nights are offering little respite either, with tropical conditions across the Region meaning temperatures aren't dropping below 20°C anywhere overnight.
