Muelle de la Curra Cartagena: military dock and cruise ship overflow dock

Muelle de la Curra Cartagena: military dock and cruise ship overflow dock

This dock is on the road heading towards the Escombreras industrial area

The Muella de la Curra is a dockside area located on the far side of the container port in Cartagena, on the road heading out towards the Escombreras industrial area of the city.

Turn right in front of the container port at the roundabout with the giant crane on it and veer around to the right. La Curra is about 500 metres along on the right hand side.

There are two areas to La Curra, one which is fenced in and can only be accessed by the public when vessels moored inside are open for visits, and a second which is used by dive schools, private vessels and fishermen and can be accessed from the road without impediment.

The enclosed area is mainly used by the military as an overflow area from the main naval base on the opposite side of the bay and is often used to house visiting vessels, or as a cruise ship dock when there are multiple vessels visiting Cartagena at the same time. The main cruise ship dock is closer to the city centre (Click Muelle de Cruceros Cartagena).

Transport is generally provided for passengers on days when this dock is in use as it's a good 15 minute walk to the main cruise ship dock from La Curra.

Parking inside is only permitted on odd occasions and most of the time it is necessary to park outside, although  generally vehicles are not allowed to park in front of the docks. There is limited parking by the small leisure port and lighthouse.
