ARCHIVED - Mound of illegally dumped meat discovered in Villajoyosa
The shocking discovery comes days after chicken remains were found dumped in the Marina Baixa municipality in Alicante province
The Local Police in Villajoysa have made a second grisly discovery in less than 10 days after a mound of illegally dumped meat remains was found in the La Robell area of the town on Sunday November 7.
It comes just days after a large quantity of chicken carcasses were carelessly discarded at the mouth of the Amadorio River on October 30, and the local police have reported the incidents to Seprona, the Spanish environmental authority responsible for investigating such cases.
The Local Police have stressed the "environmental attacks" pose a "serious health risk" and an investigation is "well underway" to catch the culprits and find a "speedy solution to the situation".
Meanwhile, Councillor for Public Safety, Isabel Perona, sent a "message of calm" to the public and assured the investigation "will produce results soon".
The initial find was made by locals walking their dogs near Amadorio River, who reported bags of chicken meat waste scattered along the river edge opposite an old brick factory. Most of the remains have since been removed, as has the mound of discarded meat in the La Robell area of the town.
