ARCHIVED - More than 1600 lightning strikes in 24 hours across Valencia region
275 lightning bolts recorded in one day in Alicante province.
As a weekend 'heatwave' gave way to an orange alert for storms and hail across Valencia region on Monday (July 26), 1,613 lightning strikes were registered in 24 hours, reports Spain's state met agency, Aemet.
Valencia province experiened the most cloud-to-ground strikes and 'in cloud' lightening with 1,013 of the total recorded incidents, followed by Castellón with 325, and Alicante where 275 strikes were registered.
In contrast to Monday's forecast, Aemet predicts clear skies across the Valencia region today, Tuesday, July 27, with some cloudy intervals in more mountainous areas.
Minimum temperatures of 21 degrees are expected in Alicante province (average of 20 across the region), and maximum of 30 degrees, with east and southeasterly winds during the afternoon.
