ARCHIVED - More planning required to alleviate acute shortage in Murcia of doctors and medical staff
Murcia Health Authority calls for urgent measures to alleviate shortage of doctors
The Region of Murcia has once again demanded at the meeting of the National Health System, Inter-territorial Council held on September 5 that a plan of urgent measures be developed to alleviate the shortage of doctors in Spain. Specifically, the Regional Health Minister, Juan José Pedreño, stated "it is a problem that is aggravated in Primary Care."
The regional health authority has made requests on several occasions to the national Ministry of Health to develop a plan of urgent measures at State level to solve the lack of doctors in Spain, which includes guaranteeing coverage for retirements and medical leave.
The regional proposal addresses the increase of the necessary staff ratios in medical facilities, in order to train the specialists to satisfy the demands of today’s society. The second objective is to redefine the criteria to expand the number of permanent positions in all the autonomous regions, so that they can be adapted to reflect the medical demands they should support which are currently left unfulfilled.
