ARCHIVED - More Brits behaving badly: Jet2 passenger calls flight attendant fat and assaults police on Spanish flight
The flight to Ibiza hadn’t even left the UK before cabin crew refused the drunk man more alcohol

Sunderland man Reese Nelson, 31, was this week handed a suspended sentence and a fine after he assaulted a flight attendant and police officers on a Spanish flight back in July.
The scaffolder had boarded a flight from Newcastle to Ibiza and cabin crew, establishing that he was already drunk, refused to serve him any more alcohol before the plane even took off.
Officers were called to the Jet2 aircraft at 7.30am to escort the passenger off and advised him that he would probably be able to catch a later flight once he’d sobered up. This didn’t go down well, however, with Mr Nelson responding: “Are you winding me up? It’s her taking the p***, it’s her attitude”, referring to an air steward.
He then threw several punches and even bit one police officer on the arm before he was manhandled to the ground and dragged off the aircraft. On his way back to the tarmac, Mr Nelson turned back and called the cabin crew member a “fat b**ch.”
Prosecutor Glenda Beck told South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court that cabin crew, realising that Mr Nelson had brought duty free booze on board, believed he would disrupt the other 189 passengers and made the call to remove him from the flight.
The magistrates also heard that although the accused claimed to only have had “three pints,” he continued his tirade in Forth Banks police station in Newcastle, where he had to be put in leg restraints.
Jason Smith, defending, said: “The defendant has a very different view of what occurred, but the reality of the situation is it did occur and he’s accepted responsibility for that. It was deeply unpleasant for the passengers and officers involved, he shouldn’t have lost his temper.”
Mr Nelson was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison, suspended for 2 years. He will also have to complete 25 days of rehabilitation and pay compensation to the injured officers.
