ARCHIVED - Miraculous reprieve for dog rescued in Aguilas after falling overboard on the trip to Ibiza
Jolie made it ashore at the Playa de Cope in Águilas after failing into the Mediterranean in transit
When Jolie went missing from a boat on which her owners were sailing to Ibiza during a storm the distraught family had little option but to accept that she had been claimed by the angry sea, but in an extraordinary twist of fate she has been rescued alive and well after being washed ashore and spotted by bathers at the Playa de Cope in Águilas the following day.
It is not known exactly where Jolie the dog fell overboard, but Ibiza is over 200 kilometres from Águilas and it has to be imagined that her survival is due to a combination of the Mediterranean currents, her strength as a swimmer and a very large dose of good fortune. The bathers who found her immediately contacted the local police in Águilas, who traced the owners from the microchip implanted in the animal.
This coincided with a call from a woman in Cádiz reporting that the dog missing was owned by the daughter of one of her friends from the USA, and the microchip confirmed the ID.

Águilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.
The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
