Minor earthquake shakes Oliva on the Valencia coast
It was small enough to cause no damage or concern, but enough for locals to pick up the phone

A minor earthquake was felt in the coastal town of Oliva on Sunday April 12 at around 8pm. According to the National Geographic Institute's seismology service, the tremor measured 2.6 in magnitude at a depth of 8 kilometres, and at least one resident called the 112 emergency line to report feeling it.
There's no suggestion of any damage or danger. Small earthquakes are a fairly routine part of life across the Valencian Community and much of southern Spain, and the vast majority go completely unnoticed by the people living there. This one was just large enough to be felt, which is why it got reported.
So commonplace are earthquakes in the Valencian Community that just last month, Torrevieja hosted one of the most significant civil protection exercises ever held in the area, a large-scale earthquake and tsunami simulation that put emergency services and local residents through their paces in what organisers described as the biggest drill of its kind in the town's history.
