Minimum wage in Spain set for a 2027 pay rise
The Spanish government wants the rise to match the rising cost of living

Workers on Spain's minimum wage can expect a pay rise in 2027, as the government has started the process of deciding how much it will go up by.
Labour Minister Yolanda Díaz was due to chair the first meeting of the advisory committee on Thursday October 8, which will prepare the report used to set next year's figure, known as the SMI. The Ministry of Labour usually convenes the committee in October, and it puts forward a recommendation, typically a range of possible increases, that's passed to employers and unions. The final decision rests with the government and doesn't depend on them agreeing.
No figure has been set yet, but the ministry explained that it wants the rise to be at least in line with inflation, which currently stands at 4.9%. The minimum wage is now €1,221 a month before tax, paid in 14 instalments, which comes to €17,094 a year after an increase of 3.1% this year. A rise of 4.9% would take it to roughly €1,281 a month, or about €17,932 a year.
The general secretary of the CCOO union, Unai Sordo, has already said the increase should be more than 5%, which would mean over €1,282 a month.
The ministry pointed out that it wants to move quickly and that the government has full authority to approve the increase, even if it's acting in a caretaker capacity after the general election on November 29.
