Temperatures in Alicante province will be up to 10ºC higher than normal for this time of year
Weather conditions have certainly see-sawed in Alicante province over the last couple of weeks, shifting somewhat rapidly from wintry gales, rain and and plummeting temperatures to conditions more typical of May than March.
And things look set to continue to heat up this weekend with the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasting a heatwave and temperatures up to 10ºC above normal for this time of year, according to spokesman Rubén del Campo.
Some parts of the province will see temperatures top out at 33ºC.
Thermometers have been steadily climbing since Monday, and on Wednesday afternoon, the mercury hit 27.1ºC in Rojales, 26.8ºC in Novelda and 26.1ºC in Alicante city and Elche
So what's the outlook for the next few days?
Thursday March 9 will be marked with cloudy intervals and although daytime temperatures won't rise significantly across the board, it will feel a bit warmer in coastal areas thanks to a warm, westerly wind.
Alcoy: 12ºC to 22ºC
Alicante: 14ºC to 25ºC
Denia: 12ºC to 24ºC
Elche: 12ºC to 26ºC
Orihuela: 13ºC to 26ºC
An overcast start to Friday March 10 will give way to intervals of high cloud in the afternoon, accompanied by strong gusts of west and northwesterly winds.
Alcoy: 11ºC to 22ºC
Alicante: 15ºC to 27ºC
Denia: 13ºC to 25ºC
Elche: 14ºC to 27ºC
Orihuela: 13ºC to 26ºC
Thermometers will climb on Saturday March 11, topping out at 32ºC in the Vega Baja and Elche Baix Vinolapo regions of the province. There will be intervals of high clouds and wind from the west and northwest with occasional strong gusts in the north.
Alcoy: 14ºC to 26ºC
Alicante: 15ºC to 30ºC
Denia: 14ºC to 28ºC
Elche: 16ºC to 32ºC
Orihuela: 15ºC to 32ºC
While the mercury will drop slightly on Sunday March 12, temperatures will remain unusually high for this time of year. On the coast, there may be intervals of strong gusts of wind from the south; inland, light and variable winds are forecast.

Alicante: 15ºC to 25ºC
Denia: 13ºC to 24ºC
Elche: 14ºC to 27ºC
Orihuela: 14ºC to 28ºC
