Mazarron Council has new Deputy Mayor
Mazarrón Town Hall reshuffle after Deputy Mayor steps down
Mazarrón's Coalition Council, made up of the independent party UIDM with 6 seats and socialist party PSOE also with 6 seats but slightly less overall votes, carried out a reshuffle of departmental responsibilities on April 26. The readjustment only affects only the PSOE councillors after ex Mayor, Gaspar Miras stepped down from his latter position as Deputy Mayor and leader of the Mazarrón PSOE Party some months ago.
Jesús García Vivancos was voted in as the Party’s Mazarrón Secretary General a few weeks ago followed by the party’s local executive promoting him to Deputy Mayor. He replaces his colleague Gaspar Miras, who continues as a Councillor. García and Miras also exchange departments with Jesús García taking over responsibility for Urban Planning, Infrastructure, Local Police and Municipal Heritage and Gaspar Miras takes up the reins of Employment, Training, Local Development, Environment and Coastal Services. The other four PSOE representatives (Carmen Navarro, Miguel Ángel Peña, Andrés Aznar and María Isabel Carrillo) maintain the departments they already exercised, although Navarro assumes the position of spokesperson of the Municipal Socialist Group.
The changes, which do not affect UIDM councillors, have been effective since Friday, April 26, when Mazarrón Mayor, Ginés Campillo, signed the appointment decrees. The new Deputy Mayor’s first job was to present the latest completed project in the “Mazarrón Urbano” initiative, an ongoing road improvement project.
Jesús García Vivancos joined Mazarrón Council in November last year after the Councillor for Camposol and International Relations, Silvana Buxton passed away.
In a press release, the PSOE points out that the changes were agreed "unanimously" in the local PSOE party and that they aim to "improve efficiency and work in the Mazarrón Town Council" adding "These decisions, seek to strengthen the municipal party and the council’s governing team, in order to work more effectively for the benefit of citizens."
In the same press release, the PSOE highlights that Jesús García Vivancos "has decided to lower his salary from €52,000 to €36,000 gross per year, in line with the rest of the socialist councillors, who will all receive the same amount, regardless of the position they occupy".
