ARCHIVED - Mass protest in Murcia against Sabadell redundancy scheme
Hundreds gathered in the Santa Isabel plaza in Murcia city
On Thursday afternoon, September 23, hundreds of people met in the Santa Isabel plaza in Murcia to protest against Banco Sabadell’s Employment Regulation Scheme (ERE) which means that 153 employees will lose their jobs.
The banking giants are also planning to close dozens of offices in addition to making more than 150 people redundant. And this isn’t the first time that the firm has announced mass closures in the Region of Murcia, as at the beginning of September they announced that 35 offices would be shut down by October.
A representative from the workers’ union has described the bank’s actions as “savage, unjustified and disproportionate”, in addition to mentioning that there are no technical, organisational or production justifications for the decision.
