March train strikes in Spain called off
Renfe train drivers have reached an agreement with the company and cancelled their planned strike action for next month

Renfe train drivers in Spain had called a strike for March, but now, just a couple of days later, the Spanish Union of Railway Machinists (SEMAF) has called off the strike after reaching an agreement with the company.
Both the workers and the company held a meeting this Thursday morning, February 22, and reached an agreement that puts an end to the planned four-day strike. They have signed four commitments, including the publication of the new call for public employment for train drivers before March 15.
In addition, they have agreed on the mobility processes for staff movements, the processes of disengagement and partial retirement and the adaptation of task tables, which will allow for the application of the working day agreements established in clause 5 of the 3rd collective agreement of the Renfe Group.
The strike was originally scheduled to be on Friday March 1, Monday March 4, Wednesday March 6 and Tuesday March 12.
Renfe said after the Ministry of Transport this week authorised the replacement rate set for new train driver positions, that “there are no reasons” to continue with the strike.
