ARCHIVED - Mar Menor oxygen levels return to normal
No anomaly has been detected in the Mar Menor this week
With the summer season in full swing the deterioration of the Mar Menor has been at the forefront of everyone’s minds, not least bar, restaurant and hotel owners who were fearing the worst for business. With experts warning that another crisis situation similar to the one that affected the area last year could be on the cards, technicians have been closely monitoring the salt-water lagoon for months now, and the news is finally positive.
An update provided by regional government analysts on Monday June 27 showed that oxygen levels tested at 45 different points of the Mar Menor were “normal,” indicating that the threat to marine life has been reduced.
The technicians tested several bodies of water located between Los Narejos beach and Las Encanizadas, and all points generated a result of more than 4 milligrams per litre, with the average coming in at 7.11 milligrams.
Therefore, the sources from the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and the Environment have confirmed that no anomaly has been detected in the Mar Menor this week.
