ARCHIVED - Man brutally beaten in suspected neo-Nazi gang attack on the Costa Blanca
The victim was allegedly chased, cornered and beaten by a 10-strong 'neo-Nazi' group in Valencia over a slogan in English on his T-shirt
The Valencia Hate Crimes Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation after a 22-year-old man was allegedly cornered and brutally beaten by up to 10 suspected neo-Nazis because of a slogan on his T-shirt which read 'working class' in English.
The violent attack reportedly occurred on Sunday afternoon, November 7, in the Algirós neighbourhood of Valencia city, when a hooded man with his face covered and a sharp object in his hand approached the victim.
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect, who had 'a neo Nazi look and aesthetics', questioned the alleged victim about the writing on his shirt before punching him to the ground.
As the young man tried to flee from his attacker, running along Calle Serpis, a group of around nine other males, wearing caps and with their faces covered, caught up with him in a doorway where they attacked and beat him.
The victim managed to escape and hide out in a nearby bar until the alleged attackers fled the scene, before going to a local medical centre where he was treated for a number of injuries.
He later reported the incident the Valencia Hate Crimes Prosecutor's Office, and delegated prosecutor Susana Gisbert, who has taken on the case, has warned the proceedings will end up in court "as there is a medical report confirming injuries".
She added that "this is not the first case of aggression by neo-Nazi groups in the area" and warned that these attacks and violent behaviour "should not go unpunished" and deserve "social reproach".
