ARCHIVED - Lorca gets set for the big Christmas light switch on: December 3
Lorca is set to dazzle again this year with the largest Christmas tree in the Region

The festive season kicks off in Lorca this coming Saturday December 3 with what promises to be a truly spectacular switching on of the Christmas lights. The show begins at 7pm and will feature a light and sound show, plenty of children’s entertainment and a performance by renowned singer María Parrado, whose rendition of Disney and Christmas favourites is sure to keep both kids and adults spellbound.
Lorca City Council has this year invested in 16 new trees on top of the 14 existing ones that will decorate the streets and squares of the municipality. The first of the new structures are currently being installed in the San José park, in the atrium of the Virgen de las Huertas and in the church of Santa María while the remaining 13 trees will be installed in the San Cristóbal neighborhood, in Calle Abellaneda and the Parque de La Verdad, and throughout the remaining districts.
In addition, Lorca can once again boast the largest Christmas tree in the entire Region of Murcia: standing more than 25 metres tall, with 120,000 low-consumption LED bulbs, this mega tree will take pride of place at the centre of Saturday’s festivities.
All of the lighting being used this year is designed to save electricity, but the decorations will also be switched off at midnight (except for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and Three Kings, when they will remain on until 2am) to conserve energy.
The mayor of Lorca has called on residents of the municipality and the Region to come out in force this weekend to enjoy the extraordinary show and support local bars, restaurants and shops.
