Lorca Castle gets brand-new children's playground
The shiny new kiddy playpark aims to be a way to boost family-friendly tourism at Lorca’s famous ‘Fortress of the Sun’

Lorca Castle, one of the city’s top tourist landmarks, now features a completely renovated playground designed to make visits more enjoyable for families with children.
The refurbishment, which cost just over €93,000, is now ready for use this summer. Councillor for
Tourism Santiago Parra visited the site and, between intrepid sessions playing on the new facilities, said the reason for renewing the playground was because the old one hadn’t been updated since it was first built, and had suffered wear from time and weather.

Located between the sundial and the path of the pomegranate trees, the play area includes a zip line, climbing tower, agility circuit, swinging bridge, balance bar and other wooden play structures designed to blend in nicely with the historic surroundings.

Councillor Parra highlighted that the project is part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination and funded through Spain’s national recovery strategy managed by the Region of Murcia.
Other ongoing improvements at Lorca Castle include repairs to fountains, upgrades to walking paths and improvements to areas behind the stage.
Parra concluded, “This new playground is one more reason for families to choose the Castle as a day out. We want the Fortress of the Sun to be a welcoming and exciting place for all ages.”
