ARCHIVED - Lidl set to open its first supermarket in Benidorm
The budget store will be built in Benidorm's bustling Rincón de Loix neighbourhood

The German Lidl chain is continuing its expansion on the Costa Blanca with plans to open its first store in Benidorm.
Despite being the region's tourist capital, the budget chain doesn't have a presence in the coastal town and instead opted to trade in the neighbouring Finestrat, La Nucía and Alfaz del Pi.
That is until now.
The company has been given the green light to demolish two buildings in Avenida Doctor Severo Ochoa, in the Rincón de Loix neighbourhood - the former Dia and El Corte Chino - and build a supermarket with car park on the site.
As yet, no opening date or planned investment has been revealed, but the municipal technical reports give the company a period of three months to complete the demolition.
Lidl has opened several stores in the Valencia Region in recent years with a new supermarket set to open its doors in Museros, Valencia city, on April 27.
An outlet recently popped up on Avenida de Novelda in the Ciudad Jardín neighbourhood of Alicante city, and the chain has expressed an interest in the old El Corte Inglés building in Alicante's Avenida Alfonso el Sabio.
Lidl has been present in Spain since 1994 and already has more than 650 stores, 11 logistics platforms and a workforce in excess of 17,500 employees in the country.
