ARCHIVED - La Mar de Músicas returns to open-air venues in Cartagena this July
The 26th festival will be devoted to Spanish musicians due to uncertainty over international travel
After the pandemic caused the cancellation of the 2020 event the La Mar de Músicas festival in Cartagena returns this summer, albeit in a rather different format due to the pandemic and the possibility of travel restrictions remaining in place.
In the past the festival has always concentrated on a featured country, bringing world music to the city, but it has been decided that the most practical option this year is to dedicate the 26th edition to Spanish artists, which should minimise the possibility of travel issues being minimised. Audiences will doubtless be limited by the Covid situation when the events are held between 16th and 24th July, and while the artists appearing have not yet been confirmed the organizers promise “a new generation of Spanish musicians presenting a fresh approach to traditional and folk sounds”.
There is just one act confirmed; Califato 3/4 appearing on July 16.
The four venues of La Mar de Músicas 2021 will be the two main ones used in recent editions, the Auditorio Parque Torres and the patio of the UPCT building on the seafront, added to which this year will be the terraces of the Auditorio El Batel and the Real Club de Regatas de Cartagena.
We have to wait for details of the artists who will be performing and no details have yet been released about how the ticket sales will be structured; all of this information will be made available within the next few weeks, but at least some sort of live music will be going ahead during July in Cartagena.
