ARCHIVED - January 15 San Anton fiesta and animal blessing in Orihuela
The National Charlatan Competition, which celebrates street vendors, makes a return to Orihuela's fiesta line-up after a 3-year hiatus

The eagerly-awaited San Antón festivities return to Orihuela next week in all their splendour with animal blessings, children's workshops and the return of the street vendor's National Charlatan Competition which is making a comeback following a three-year hiatus.
The fiesta is a tradition that dates back to the 17th century and will begin with the deep-rooted 'despertá' at 9am on Sunday January 15 – a parade of firecracker throwing Fallas accompanied by musical bands – that will make its way to Plaza de la Ermita de San Antón.
There will be a mass at in the Ermita de San Antón at 10.30am followed by children's workshops with face painting.
At 11.30am, there will be the animal blessing ceremony in honour of the patron saint of animals, and at 12 noon, the National Charlatan Competition kicks off.
The Royal Order of San Antón has scheduled the traditional rice lunch and awards ceremony for 6pm at the Santo Domingo school, part of the festivities that will be broadcast live on the Ayuntamiento de Orihuela Facebook page.
The annual Sorteo de la Cerda raffle will be drawn at 8pm in Plaza de la Ermita de San Antón and the church will be open on Saturday January 14 from 6pm to 9pm to buy tickets.
This "unique" raffle ws first held in the 18th century to raise funds for the parish.
