ARCHIVED - Inflation in the Valencia region rises above the national average
The Consumer Price Index in Valencia stood at 3.5 per cent in August compared to 3.3 per cent at a national level
Inflation in the Valencia region rose five tenths of a percentage point in August compared to the previous month after the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rate rose to 3.5 per cent, above the 3.3 per cent nationally.
Increased housing, electricity and food costs have all contributed to record levels of inflation in Spain last month, reaching the highest level in nine years. According to data published by the National Statistics Institute (INE) on Tuesday September 14, housing and transport in the Valencia region have seen the biggest rise. Housing costs saw a 13.6 per cent increase, mainly due to a hike in electricity prices, and transport costs increased 9.1 per cent as a result of a rise in automobile prices.
The cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew by up to 1.5 per cent, due to the rise in fruit prices, household goods (1.4 per cent), hotels, cafes and restaurants (1 per cent), clothing and footwear (1 per cent), medicine (0.5); others (0.6); and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (0.4).
At a national level, the CPI rose four tenths of a percentage in August to 3.4 per cent, the highest level for almost nine years.
